Biography

20-year-old Georgia Germein is an Australian, Adelaide based singer-songwriter blending indie/folk with pop/rock; and is already achieving an extensive amount for someone so young in their musical career.

Performing either solo (vocals, guitar, piano, violin, ukulele), or having her songs brought to new heights with her two sisters Ella Germein (backing vocals, bass, synth) and Clara Germein (backing vocals, drums, guitar) the ‘Germein Sisters’ are best described as the Australian Corrs.

The sisters blend the exuberance of pop/rock with an indie/folk texture; topped off by vocals combining the raw honesty of Adele, the Irish sparkle of Andrea Corr, and the heart of U2. This young family band is definitely a promise of extraordinary things coming your way.

With music videos receiving airplay on renowned national video show RAGE (Taste Media), the Germein Sisters, after a successful tour of Malaysia in 2010, spent 2011 touring extensively throughout regional South Australia, Alice Springs, Sydney, & Melbourne – performing a record 130 shows in 2011 alone. 2012 excitement is already underway, with a national tour in its final stages of planning – set to begin at the ‘Germein Sisters’ Adelaide Fringe show in the Izolize Spiegeltent (Garden of Unearthly Delights).

Georgia’s songs draw on her experiences of growing up in the bush in the Adelaide Hills, Australia; her love of the ocean and travelling, combined with her commitment to Indigenous Reconciliation, her work in the Kalahari, South Africa and Nepal as World Vision's 2010 Youth Ambassador. Georgia’s passion for the environment is also evident, being a youth advocate for the Nature Foundation South Australia, a member of Fauna Rescue, and also a carer of orphaned Australian wildlife – with kangaroo joeys in her care at the current time.

Georgia’s debut album "Take My Hand" produced with Ian Pritchett (Angus & Julia Stone and the Beautiful Girls) has been enjoying airplay on commercial & community radio across the nation. Her single ‘Puppet’ was recently picked up in New York 2012, receiving airplay in the US – as well as in Nepal and Malaysia. Georgia’s songs are also being played in stores across Australia including David Jones, Peter Alexander, Colorado and IKEA, as well as ABC’s Digital Music playlist and the Sounds Like Café compilation (John Butler, Sarah Blasko, Norah Jones). Distributed through MGM nationally & internationally, Georgia’s album is already in its second printing due to a sellout.

As World Vision's Youth Ambassador, Georgia spoke and performed at over 80 schools reaching over 40,000 students in 2010. Invited to perform at the World Vision Global Leadership Conventions in Sydney, Melbourne, & Adelaide; she has performed at numerous charity concerts for organizations including UNIFEM, United Nations, International Globalist, Oaktree Foundation, Nature Foundation SA, Red Cross, Cora Barclay, Vision Generation, Fight the Flood, Ecuador Foundation, ABC, Global Poverty Forum, Fuel Conference, YYCA, and the UniSA Cambodia Appeal. Georgia is pleased to continue her relationship with World Vision as a World Vision Artist Associate, alongside inspiring talents including Brooke Fraser and Anberlin.

Winning a number of prestigious awards including seven ASME Young Composers Awards, the 2007 South Australian Premiers Award, National winner of the 2009 Red Cross Radio Competition for Nova, finalist in the 2011 Australian Songwriting Competition, semi finalist status in the 2007 International Songwriting Competition, and a semi-finalist in the Channel 9 Young Achievers Awards; it is clear that Georgia has already achieved a great deal.

Georgia & her sisters are excited about pursuing their passion - music, music and more music, especially if it has a message that inspires and empowers.

What the critics are saying...

"I have witnessed many great acts - but only one that has held the audience's attention in such a way. Georgia and her sisters are able to connect with a wide range of demographics with their quality performance..." Norwood Live

“The gorgeous trio, who play under the name the ‘Germein Sisters’ have been performing together for only about a year, but are already making waves…” Adelaide Confidential

“It is clear Germein is well travelled and has gained much life experience from this, and it is clear, too that this comes through her music. Germein’s talents are accompanied by her equally gifted and gorgeous sisters, Clara on drums and vocals and Ella on bass, keyboard and vocals. This definitely is a family of young talents. Their chemistry on stage is clear, and slide from one song to the next seamlessly, always keeping the audience engaged and entertained. This is one performance that comes with a message. Everyone in the audience will no doubt leave feeling a little more consciously and emotionally awakened...” Lowdown National Music Magazine

“This 20-year-old from South Australia has managed to craft some incredibly beautiful songs, with maturity and self-awareness of someone twice her age. Germein’s highly versatile and immensely powerful voice, crosses effortlessly from track to track and will leave you with RSI as you push repeat again and again and again. There is such beauty in this album and I for one am a huge fan. Review score 9/10…” AU Review

“With her purity of vocal tone and obvious musicality Georgia Germein has a bright future…” The Adelaide Advertiser

“Georgia Germein has been part of the World Vision family for many years as a youth ambassador, demonstrating to young and old alike how one person can make a difference for underprivileged children around the world. Young people like Georgia fill me with hope for the future. It is inspiring to know that her passion and songs will contribute to the audacious dream of a world where extreme poverty and injustice is no longer tolerated. Georgia’s unrelenting commitment to fight poverty is only matched by her tenacious drive to create great music. Her ability to craft lyrics and melodies in a way that reaches the soul reflects a seasoned artist whose deep insights belie her youth. I admire Georgia for her musical achievements and for her compassionate heart – a remarkable woman who will continue to sing words that breathe life into the silenced..." Tim Costello
